The Healthy Built Environment Alliance (HBEA) is a voluntary alliance of organizations from a wide variety of sectors across BC which provides leadership and action for healthier, more livable communities. The purpose of HBEA is to:

Monthly in-store campaigns raise awareness of the risks of alcohol, topics include alcohol and pregnancy, and Get Home Safe programs, which give beer and wine festival organizers the opportunity to distribute free public transit tickets to festival patrons.

Communities across BC are motivated to promote cycling as a mode of transportation. 

The motivations for these changes are multifaceted. At the municipal level, they include the impossibility of managing traffic congestion via increased roadways, green city strategies aimed at reducing air pollution and greenhouse gases, and a recognition that the vitality of cities is better promoted by people who are not enclosed in vehicles, but walking, cycling, and interacting with each other. 

This website includes resources that provide opportunities for students to explore local government in the contexts of their own community and other communities; based on a fundamental assumption that students should be involved in decision making and encouraged to consider ways that they can be active, participatory, and engaged citizens.

The Urban Land Institute's Building Healthy Places Toolkit: Strategies for Enhancing Health in the Built Environment outlines evidence-supported opportunities for enhancing health outcomes in real estate developments.

Developers, owners, property managers, designers, investors, and others involved in real estate decision making can use the report’s recommendations and strategies to create places that contribute to healthier people and communities, and to enhance and preserve value by meeting growing desires for health-promoting places.

The Building Resilient Neighbourhoods program increases the capacity of citizens to organize initiatives that build stronger relationships, improve local economies and increase self-reliance within their communities. Building Resilient Neighbourhoods is a collaborative initiative hosted by BC Healthy Communities.
