On January 17, 2017, Squamish Council endorsed the Squamish Children’s Charter, created by the children of Squamish, outlining their rights as children and citizens. The Children’s Charter is a call to the community and decision‐makers to support the well being and unique needs of children.

Community Vitality measures the strength, activity and inclusiveness of relationships between residents, private sector, public sector and civil society organizations that fosters individual and collective wellbeing. Check out the Smithers Community Vitality Report Card, project background and resources, including an introduction to community vitality indicators, past community discussions and presentations.

A new mental-health digital hub that will make it easier for thousands of British Columbians to find the services and supports closest to them is among various targeted initiatives totalling $140 million over three years under Budget 2017 to support those with mental-health and substance-use challenges. The new resources will focus on prevention and early intervention, housing, enhanced treatment and supports, and better integration and access to services.

PlanH partnered with each health authority on a series of five forums taking place in each region to take stock of: the impacts of collaborative efforts between local governments, health authorities, and other community partners; the key factors that are enabling this success; and how we can grow this impact moving forward.

A ten-year journey in a millennia-old food tradition may seem like a blip in time but for Shelly Crack and her collaborators, this has been a significant decade of rebuilding local food systems in schools, strengthening human networks, and promoting traditional knowledge of land and food on the islands known as Haida Gwaii - an archipelago on BC’s north coast.

Vancouver's The Greenest City Fund supports projects that help work towards Vancouver becoming the greenest city in the world by 2020. Since 2012, they've funded about $2 million to over 600 projects in partnership with the Vancouver Foundation, including 609 neighbourhood small grants, 63 community grants and 93 Green Generation grants.

The First Nations Health Authority and BC Patient Safety & Quality Council have collaborated to produce a webinar series. The webinars explore the ideas of cultural safety and cultural humility and encourage participants to pledge their commitment to working towards a world that is free of systemic racism and inclusive of people.

We are pleased to announce the winners of our Seeding Healthy Communities photo contest! Congratulations to the municipality of Bowen Island and Courtenay's Lush Valley Food Action Society for their wonderful winning photos. These PlanH Community Capacity Building Fund - Seeding Stream recipients used their photos to show us how their projects help build healthier small, rural and remote communities.

 

Our latest PlanH short video showcases the amazing work being done in Chilliwack, Abbotsford and Hope around ensuring that all children have a chance to form healthy habits early in life. These three communities are using a community-based participatory approach and common consistent messaging to for kids to make the healthy choice the easier choice around healthy eating and physical activity.
