We are excited to announce the release of the Supporting Equity in Planning and Policy Action Guide!

This Action Guide is for local governments across the province working to implement and champion equity across social, economic, environmental and cultural domains.

In early 2020, BC Healthy Communities identified food security and insecurity as a key concern for communities in light of COVID-19. In response, PlanH has launched a series of Rapid Action Resources that explore food security and insecurity issues from a Healthy Communities lens, offering ideas for local government action in this area. The second resource in this series, Working with NGOs, Faith-based and Cultural Groups, and the Charitable Food Sector, is now available. 

BC Healthy Communities is excited to announce the release of the Healthy Natural Environments Action Guide!

This new PlanH Healthy Natural Environments Action Guide is for local governments across the province working to create healthy, equitable natural spaces.

Building healthy, equitable communities for all means authentically engaging community members in a way that develops trust, communication and collaboration—especially for those folks in our communities who are under-served or harder-to-reach. We know we must integrate an equity lens into our engagement planning at the fundamental stages of the process; but how do we do this in a way that ensures the community members who give their time and energy to our engagement processes are as empowered as possible?

The first resource in this series, Community Food Production, is now available. 

The application deadline for the 2023 PlanH Healthy Communities Fund has been extended to May 15. This extension offers an opportunity for more communities to apply for and access funding to support initiatives that promote community connectedness and healthy public policy.

The 2023 PlanH Healthy Communities Grants are now open for application. The grants, administered by BC Healthy Communities, are offered across two funding streams: Community Connectedness and Healthy Public Policy.

In response to requests from communities and partners, we’ve extended the application deadline for our Healthy Public Policy grants for the Vancouver Coastal Health region. We’re now accepting applications until June 15, 2022.

One of the current focus areas of the PlanH program is the importance of developing Healthy Public Policy at the local government level. In collaboration with a selection of local and Indigenous government partners, BC Healthy Communities (BCHC) is hosting an ongoing speaker series to bring fresh ideas for healthy public policy to local and Indigenous government leaders in B.C.
