The goal of the PlanH program is to support local governments in BC to create the conditions for community health and wellness.
For 2018/19, a special focus of the PlanH Healthy Communities Fund is community health and wellness for Indigenous populations. The Health and Wellness Grant for Indigenous Communities is available to First Nations Bands, First Nations Tribal Councils, Métis Chartered Communities, and Friendship Centres. This grant is now accepting applications untilNovember 5th, 2018.
Do you have ideas to improve the health and wellness of your community?
This grant could be for you! Grant funding can be used to further initiatives that enhance or promote community health and wellness. Focus areas could include social or cultural connectedness, food security, healthy built and natural environments, healthy aging or other topics. Grants of up to $8,500 each are available for up to 10 Indigenous local governments and/or organizations to better understand local needs and to take action to improve community health and wellness in their community or region.
Important Dates:
November 5th, 2018: Application deadline
December 14th, 2018: Notification of successful applicants
January 1–Dec 31st 2019 : Project takes place
January 31st 2020: Deadline for delivery of final project report

For-profit groups

Non-profit organizations (with the exception of Indigenous Friendship Centres in BC)

This opportunity could be for you if you:
Represent an Indigenous local government or Friendship Centre, and
Have community partners who share your interest in improving community health.
This funding encourages multi-sectoral partnerships. We suggest that ineligible organizations contact eligible organizations to discuss collaborating on a project.
Eligible local governments and organizations who are working in partnership with their health authority and other sectors and who are interested in applying should read the application infosheet thoroughly.
Objectives
LEARN: Deepen learning and understanding of the ways to improve community health and well-being;
ENGAGE & COLLABORATE: Convene, engage and develop shared leadership and action between local governments, Indigenous communities, health authorities and other sectors that can influence community health and well-being;
TAKE ACTION: do a needs assessment, prepare plans or develop specific policies that improve outcomes for the community as a whole and over the long term.
Criteria
The Health and Wellness Grant for Indigenous Communities supports projects that:
Develop partnerships and build relationships, encouraging different groups to work together and connecting people to each other, to their culture and to their community.
Engage community members to identify needs and build on community assets and strengths.
Improve outcomes for the community as a whole and over the long term.
Develop and strengthen skills and resources within the community.
Build healthy environments (cultural, social, physical, and economic) that support all community members to thrive.
Scale or expand programs with proven success and positive community impacts.
Events and activities that are part of a larger healthy community strategy.

We ask that projects funded through the PlanH Healthy Communities Fund include written acknowledgment of funding in materials produced as a result of the PlanH Healthy Communities Fund. This includes publicity, conferences, meeting presentations, printed pieces or any other materials that are public and promotional in nature.
