Join the BC Food Systems Network and the BC Centre for Disease Control for an engaging webinar on March 20th. This webinar will feature Ione Smith, an award-winning professional agrologist with a wealth of experience working with local governments on food systems. Ione will share insights into effective engagement with local government, drawing on her finely tuned understanding of the scope and tools available to local government when it comes to food systems.
Children from communities of color and low-income neighborhoods face physical as well as social and structural barriers to quality nature spaces and experiences. This inequity is reflected in disparate health, mental health and developmental outcomes. Conversely, nature access can create more racially, socially and economically equitable communities.
How can governments create more intentional space to surface issues and enable local problem-solving? And how can they place citizens at the center of this conversation in ways that harness the energy and knowledge that community members offer?
