Adaptation Canada is a national conference on climate change adaptation, and the 2020 conference is taking place in Vancouver, B.C.

The conference will features over 60 panels and workshops spread across eight tracks: Financing Resilience, Showcasing Soutions, Ecological Resilience, Professional Practice and Capacity-Building, Raising Awareness and Broadening Engagement, Addressing Climate Change Inequities, Health, and Youth.

Climate change imposes serious potential threats to short-term and long-term health of all BC residents but it particularly affects the well-being in First Nations communities. Incidences of climate change associated community health emergencies, amplified by other cumulative environmental impacts, are becoming commonplace in BC. Climate change also worsens symptoms of many chronic diseases and may indirectly increase the prevalence of new non-communicable diseases.

Simon Fraser University is offering a Continuing Studies workshop at their Vancouver campus that examines the role of architecture, planning, and public policy in creating spaces and places that are responsive to the needs of aging populations.

The course will focus on age-friendly approaches and community-based responses to population aging.
